Getting to the Start Line on Race Morning - Participants
Driving Directions to the Start Line
- From Interstate 5 South: Exit Kettner/Sassafras Street. Turn left on Laurel St., go uphill towards 5th Avenue and turn left on 3rd or 5th.
- From Interstate 5 North: Exit at Hawthorn Street and continue straight onto Brant Street. Turn right on Laurel Street and left on 5th.
- Parking is available throughout side streets near the start line on 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th. Note 4th Street is one-way south and 5th is one-way north.
- Runner drop off is best on 5th Avenue (north of Laurel) between Maple, Nutmeg, Olive and Palm Streets.
Park at the Airport Authority Parking Lot and take a Start Line Shuttle [ view map ]
On race morning, drive to the Airport Authority Parking Lot adjacent to the finish line, and take the start line shuttle. The start line shuttles will operate from 4:00 am – 6:00 am and are reserved for participants only with a valid race number. Carpool and arrive early! Take a Trolley to the Airport Authority Parking Lot and take a Start Line Shuttle [ view trolley map ]
From Downtown, the Trolley will run several intermittent trips from 3:20 am to 5:10 am originating from the Gaslamp Quarter Station, stopping at the Convention Center and Seaport Village Stations en route to the Washington Street Station.
From Mission Valley, the Trolley will run several intermittent trips from 4:15 am-5:20 am originating at the Qualcomm Stadium Station, stopping at Rio Vista, Hazard Center, Fashion Valley, and Old Town en route to the Washington Street Station.
From the Washington Street Station, participants can walk one block to the Airport Authority parking lot to catch a shuttle to the start line.
Take a Hotel Shuttle to the Start Line

Take a TNT Shuttle to the Start Line
If you are a Team In Training participant a shuttle plan has been arranged for you and your team. Please consult your local chapter for further details.
Walk from Downtown to the Start Line
If you are staying in a downtown hotel, the start line is approximately a 1.5 mile walk. Walk up 5th Avenue (north), turn right onto Laurel Street and you will run into the Start Line Village.
Get Dropped Off at the Start Line
Participant drop off is best on 5th Avenue, north of Laurel St. between Maple and Palm St. Keep in mind that 5th is a one way street heading north.
Getting Back After the Race – Participants
Take a Finish Line shuttle or walk to the Airport Authority Parking Lot
Shuttle service will operate from the MCRD Parade Ground near the Finish Line to the Airport Authority Parking Lot from 7 am – 5 pm. The finish area is a 3/4 mile walk to the Airport Authority Parking area; walking is encouraged.

Walk or take the finish line shuttle to the Airport Authority Parking Lot and catch the Washington Street Trolley to your Downtown, Mission Valley, or Old Town hotels.
Get Picked Up
If you are being picked up, please arrange to meet your ride at a perimeter Trolley station. No cars, including taxis, will be able to access the MCRD base at any time, or the Airport Authority Parking Lot after 10 am.

Trolley is Free for Participants
Take the Trolley’s Green Line to Qualcomm Stadium Station. From downtown, take the Blue Line to Old Town, then catch the Green Line bound for Santee. Additional service will be provided after the Concert from Qualcomm to Mission Valley, Old Town and the Convention Center area.
Participants can ride the Trolley for FREE to the Concert with their race number from 5 pm until 10:30 pm; guests can purchase a Trolley pass at the Expo or from automated ticket stations.
Driving Directions to Qualcomm Stadium - Parking $10
From Interstate 8 East: Exit Qualcomm Way and head north. Go East on Friars road and turn right onto Mission Valley Drive to the Stadium’s Main Gate.
From Interstate 8 West: Exit Mission Gorge and head north. Go west on San Diego Mission Road. Turn left on Mission Village Drive to the Stadium’s Main Gate.

Driving to the Start Line
There is no official parking lot at the start line and parking is very limited. Side street parking may be available along 3rd, 4th, or 5th Avenues and is within walking distance to the Start Line Village entrance at 6 th Ave and Laurel Street. Note: 4th Street is one-way south and 5th is one-way north. >Directions to the Start Line
Take the Trolley to the Start Line [ view trolley map ]
There are no Trolley Stations immediately surrounding the Start Line. The closest Trolley Station is the Fifth Avenue Station (5th Avenue & C Street), located on both Blue and Green lines. From the Fifth Avenue Station, the Start Line is a 1-mile walk up 5th or 6th Avenue (north) to the Start Line Village along 6th Avenue, between Laurel and Palm Streets.
Getting to the Finish Line on Race Morning – Spectators

Parking for the Finish Line Festival at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) in Point Loma, is located in the adjacent Airport Authority Parking Lot. FREE SHUTTLES from the Airport Authority Parking Lot to the Finish Line are available from 7 am – 5 pm. Spectators must arrive in the Airport Authority Parking Lot by 10 am. No vehicles, bicycles or pets are allowed on the MCRD. **Everyone entering the MCRD will be subject to search whether you take the shuttle or walk. Please pad your time by 30-40 minutes to ensure you see your runner cross the finish line.
Park at the County Administration Building or Qualcomm Stadium
The Airport Authority Parking Lot will close at 10 am or when full. Please arrive early. When the lot is full spectators will be routed to the County Administration Building downtown or Qualcomm Stadium in Mission Valley. From these locations take the Trolley (Blue Line) to the Washington Street Station near the Finish Line.
Spectator Trolley Tips - Purchase Trolley Passes at the Expo
Access these mile markers via the following Trolley Stations. Note: Trolley Stations on the Blue and Green Lines south of the Santa Fe Depot and C Street will be interrupted on race day due to the course crossing the tracks at various locations:
View Miles 6 through 7 – American Plaza/Santa Fe Depot Station (Blue Line) at Broadway & Pacific Highway (within 1-2 blocks walking distance to course on Harbor Drive and Broadway)
View Mile 12 – Fashion Valley Transit Center (Green Line) near P.F. Chang’s - (within 1-2 blocks walking distance to course and entertainment stage on Friars Road in front of Fashion Valley Mall)
View Mile 14 and 22 – Morena/Linda Vista Station (Green Line - within 1 block walking distance to course on Napa Street/Friars Road)
FINISH LINE - Washington Street Station (Blue Line- within 2 blocks walking distance to shuttle buses at finish line Airport Authority parking lot adjacent to the MCRD. The entire walk from the Trolley station to the finish line without using a shuttle is 1 mile)
*Note: If you plan on watching your runner cross the finish line, limit your viewing spots to two locations, including the finish line. If your runner is faster (sub-5 hour pace), choose either the Fashion Valley or Linda Vista viewing options.

Driving Directions to the Airport Authority Parking Lot (adjacent to Finish Line)
- From the Start Line: Take Laurel west to India Street, turn right go one mile and turn left on Sassafras.
- From I-5 southbound: Exit Washington St. or Kettner/Sassafras, Exit Washington St, turn right on Washington and go 3 blocks to parking area. Exit Kettner/Sassafras, go straight for 1 mile, turn right on Sassafras, go one block to parking area.
- From I-5 northbound: Exit India St., turn left on Sassafras and go 2 blocks to parking area.
Driving Directions to the Post Race Concert on the Green @ Qualcomm Stadium
- From Interstate 8: Exit College Avenue south towards SDSU. Turn right on
Montezuma Road, turn right on 55th Street. Turn left at the first signal to
Parking Structure V.
Driving Directions to the Start Line
- From I-5 southbound: Exit Kettner/Sassafras Street. Turn left on Laurel Street, go uphill towards 5th Avenue and turn left on 3rd or 5th.
- From I-5 northbound: Exit at Hawthorn Street and continue straight onto Brant St. Turn right on Laurel Street, go uphill to 5th ave.
- From Downtown: Take 5th Avenue north. Drop-off is best at Maple, Nutmeg, Olive and Palm Streets on 5th.
Driving Directions to the County Administration Building
- From I-5 southbound: Exit Front Street, turn right on Ash St. Continue on Ash Street and turn right on Harbor Drive. You may enter the North Lot from Harbor or turn right on Grape St. and right into the parking lot.
- From I-5 northbound: Exit Hawthorn St. Turn left on Pacific Highway. Cross Grape St. and turn right into the County Administration Building North Lot.
Driving Directions to Qualcomm Stadium
**Do not use Highway 163 South
- From I-15 northbound: Exit west on Friars Rd. and be prepared to turn left into the western-most stadium parking lot.
- From I-5 northbound: Turn east on I-8, exit north on Qualcomm Way and turn east on Friars Rd. to the stadium entrance.
- From I-5 southbound or 805 southbound: Turn east on I-8, exit north on Qualcomm Way and turn east on Friars Rd. to the stadium entrance.
- From I-8 eastbound: Exit at Mission Gorge off-ramp, turn north on Mission Gorge, then west on San Diego Mission Rd. to the stadium entrance.
- From I-8 westbound: Exit north on Qualcomm Way and turn east on Friars Rd. to the stadium entrance.
Driving Directions to the Finish Line from the Start Line
- Take Laurel west to India Street, turn right go one mile and turn left on Sassafras and go 2 blocks to parking area.
Entering the MCRD
The MCRD is an active military base. Entrance constitutes consent to search of personnel and the property under their control. All spectators will be searched whether you board a finish line shuttle or walk. Bikes and pets are not allowed onto the base, but you may lock your bike in front of the pedestrian entrance. The more you bring, the longer the security lines. Pack light and pad your time by one hour to get through the security checkpoint and to ensure you see your runner cross the finish line.
Rules Enforced on MCRD:
- No vehicles, including bicycles, will be allowed to enter the base.
- All persons entering the MCRD are subject to search and seizure of illegal substances.
- Arrive early and expect at least a half hour delay when entering the MCRD.
- Weapons of any type, alcohol, glass bottles and illegal drugs or paraphernalia are strictly prohibited on base.
- All bags, packs, camera bags and personal property will be searched.
Guests are encouraged to limit baggage brought into the MCRD. This will facilitate expeditious entry.
- No dogs or pets will be allowed to enter the MCRD.
- While within the MCRD, please stay within the clearly marked designated area.
- Entry into the MCRD constitutes consent to search of personnel and the property under their control, pursuant to internal security act of 1950, section 21, 50 u.s.c. 797 (1979).
- The MCRD is an active military base. Due to national security concerns, any jokes or references will be treated seriously and will result in eviction from the base and possible arrest. Please respect the MCRD officials and grounds.
