Minor Course Change Alert

Due to ongoing City of San Diego street construction on Crown Point Drive, the 2009 marathon will run further west on Pacific Beach Drive, turning left (south) on Lamont Street and continuing south on Crown Point Drive.

Residents south of Pacific Beach Drive and east of Lamont Street are advised to plan ahead for this route change. Fastest guaranteed access to/from this neighborhood will be by foot, parking north of Pacific Beach Drive or west of Lamont Street.

Traffic controllers will be on site to meter vehicles across the route at Morrell Street and Pacific Beach Drive, only when it is safe to do so. However, during peak hours of the race, approximately 8:30-10am, wait times may exceed 20 minutes.

"No Parking" Zone Information

A number of roads will be marked with special event "No Parking" signs, effective Sunday, May 31 between 12:01 AM and 3:00 PM.

Vehicles parked in these areas during the specified time period will be towed at the owners' expense. The No parking signs will be removed on a rolling basis, after the roads are cleared of race-related materials.

Freeway Information

The only major freeway that will be closed on race day is Highway 163. Southbound Highway 163, between Interstate 805 and downtown, will be closed for ten hours from 2:00 am until 12:00 pm.

All other major freeways throughout San Diego will be open on race day, including I-5, I-805, I-94 and I-8, however expect delays, especially on southbound I-5 between SeaWorld Drive/Tecolote and downtown and on I-8 between Mission Bay Drive and Morena Blvd.

Expect delays on I-5 and I-8 during peak marathon finishing hours (10:00 am - 2:00 pm). Southbound I-5, between Sea World Drive/Tecolote and downtown, and I-8 between Friars Road and I-5 will be congested; avoid these areas, if possible. If you need to travel during these peak times, it is recommended that you drive around the Marathon course, rather than trying to cross it. Your altered travel plans may require driving a few extra miles or using a different freeway, but this will save you time in the end.
